Our marketing associates have provided quality, personalized service to all of our agents and producers since 1971. The reason why we’re one of the oldest IMO / FMOs in the country is due to the success of the relationships we’ve built with our carriers and producers. Any agent who joins the U.S. Marketing Corporation network becomes part of the family.

Our associates are the core of our company – build and keep mutually beneficial relationships producers and agents while maintaining open lines of communication with our many affiliated insurance and annuity carriers. Here’s a little about each of our valuable staff members:

Don Fortney - CLU, ChFC, RFC

President

Don is the founder and president of U.S. Marketing Corporation. While running a large life insurance agency in the 1970’s, he identified a huge opportunity in selling insurance through financial institutions. Don is one of the principals who incorporated the institutional part of the former agency into U.S. Marketing Corporation. He has spent most of his career developing his individual practice and building distribution in banks, credit unions and broker dealers.

Don is a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). He acquired his securities license in 1987 and has recently added Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) to his credentials.

 
 
Eric Fortney – RFC, MBA

Vice President

Eric joined U.S. Marketing Corporation in 2000 and has been vice president since 2005. He has had an integral role in growing the company into a national wholesaling organization and has been actively involved in developing and expanding the company’s bank and broker dealer channel.

Eric earned his Bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Marian University in 2000 and received a Master of Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University in 2004.

 
 
Nancy Fortney – CLTC

Vice President

Nancy is a founding partner and vice president of U.S. Marketing Corporation. With over 30 years of industry experience in long-term care insurance, including working with leading companies across the U.S., Nancy has a distinctive approach to asset preservation. She is an expert in merging long-term care into a financial plan, creating stand-alone policies and preserving individual personal wealth.

Nancy has a balanced leadership approach and is a strong supporter of emerging women leaders. Her involvement in women’s leadership began when she joined the Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (BIC) in Milwaukee. Through WBIC, Nancy became a mentor to a young female entrepreneur. Together, Nancy and her mentee wrote a book about the importance of mentoring: Mentoring, The Women, The Work, The Effects. After the book was published, Nancy was invited to Washington D.C. to be a part of the National Steering Committee for Women. Today, she continues to encourage and develop leadership roles for women in business.

 
 
Curtis M. Smith – CLU, ChFC

Field Coordinator

Curt is a field coordinator for U.S. Marketing Corporation, working closely with agents and investment representatives on the insurance and annuity side of financial services. With over 40 years of industry experience, Curt adds value to his business relationships by helping agents and reps enhance their practices. He enjoys field activity and prefers working one-on-one.

Curt joined U.S. Marketing from his wholesale insurance operation, Insurance Designers of New England, Inc., which he founded and has run since 1987. He entered the financial services industry in 1976 after serving in the U.S. Navy and earning his Bachelor of Science degree in corporate finance from University of Rhode Island.

Curt first worked for a stock brokerage firm headquartered in New York City, where he was trained an earned his Series 7, 6 and 63 designations. Curt’s experience also includes personal production, agency management and insurance brokerage. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations.

 
 
David Fields

Field Coordinator

David is a field coordinator for U.S. Marketing Corporation. He is a seasoned financial professional with over 20 years’ experience building productive & profitable sales experiences throughout the U.S. He has a diverse career background, which includes running his own RIA and wholesaling with some of the best known manufacturers in the industry. He attended school in the northeastern U.S. and was ordained a minister from the MTS Bible College of Gilead. He holds Life, Health, Annuity and LTC licenses in several states, and also possesses Series 7, 63 and 66 regulations.

While David grew up in The Big Apple and spent the initial part of his career annuity wholesaling in the NYC metro area, other opportunities took him through the Midwest and into the South; he and his wife currently reside in the southwest Arkansas/northeast Texas region.

 
 
Julie Fortney

Executive Case Manager

Julie joined U.S. Marketing Corporation in 2005 and is currently the executive case manager. She has assisted in various capacities within the business from licensing and new business processing to illustration and marketing support. Currently, she oversees the new business processes and handles high-profile and large face amount cases. Her close attention to detail and knowledge of the business provides additional support to the growth of U.S. Marketing and makes her uniquely qualified for her role.

 
 
Heladio Barajas

Marketing Coordinator & Internal Wholesaler

Heladio has been with U.S. Marketing Corporation since 2010 and is currently a marketing coordinator & internal wholesaler. His responsibilities range from providing support on product design, illustration and care planning, to serving the financial planning needs of clients. He also coordinates marketing activities using a broad set of channels, including direct mail, email, websites and conference exhibits.

Heladio earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In addition to Spanish, he is also currently studying Portuguese.

 
 
Hannah Shanley

Marketing Coordinator & Internal Wholesaler

Hannah joined U.S. Marketing Corporation in 2015 and is currently a marketing coordinator & internal wholesaler. Her responsibilities include providing agent support in case planning, illustrations and product design. She coordinates company marketing via a variety of channels, including email marketing, direct mailers and web design. She also manages marketing materials for their 35+ carriers and provides materials/kits for conferences, trainings, meetings and to fulfill individual agent needs.

Hannah earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media/Public Relations from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

 
 
Amy Stauss

New Business Manager (Life, LTCi, DI)

Amy joined U.S. Marketing Corporation in 2014 and is currently the new business manager for Life, LTC and DI. In her role, she reviews applications, orders exams and attending physician statements, provides agents with case status updated and follows cases through until they have been placed inforce.

Amy recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in marketing and a minor in global business from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

 
 
Andrea Smith

Licensing & Contracting Coordinator

Andrea is the Licensing/Contracting Coordinator for U.S. Marketing Corporation. With over 30 years of insurance agent contracting experience, Andrea joined U.S. Marketing Corporation from her family owned wholesale insurance operation, Insurance Designers of New England, Inc.

Andrea entered the insurance industry as a licensed insurance agent after working for both New England Telephone in Rhode Island and Southern New England Telephone in Connecticut as a Customer Service Representative. She enjoys working with insurance agents and financial services reps and the challenges of an ever changing industry.

 
 
Amanda Paul

Operations Manager

Amanda joined U.S. Marketing in 2016 and currently serves as the office Operation's Manager and personal assistant to Don Fortney. She handles commissions, client relations, individual case follow-up, and client servicing/follow-ups.

Amanda graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sport and Entertainment Management from Concordia University Wisconsin.
